We are heading for bed on our second day in Baton Rouge with Mitzi.  John is going to give you his comments!
JoK  Good Sunday day.  Great afternoon concert.  Good dinner with lots of sister Mitzi's friends.  Saturday we got shrimp and mudbugs (crawfish to non-cajuns) from Tony's.  Tony's place is world-famous, at least it is if you live in Baton Rouge.  Wonderful food.  Marilyn loved 'em.  Got peeling instructions from John's niece, Elizabeth.  A great start to our trip.
Marilyn - Ok.  About those "mudbugs"! First time I've peeled and eaten (or even really seen!) a real crawfish.  Ton of work for a tiny little sliver of lobster-like meat from a tail that is maybe a third of the weight of the crawfish.  Messy, sticky and tons of fun.  I had a ball!  Mitzi covered the table with newspaper and paper plates and we took off.
We went to visit Nottoway Plantation yesterday.  Historical registry, on the banks of the Mississippi River across (now) from the levee.  Trying to imagine the lifestyle during the Civil War was a real stretch.  Nothing like the Deep South for a sense of history.  Pictures below.
John and Mitzi on the levee.
These irises are everywhere here!  Simply gorgeous

This is Nottoway Plantation near White Castle, La.  Lots of history and this is the view from the top of the levee between it and the Mississippi River.  Pretty spectacular

The grounds of the Plantation were covered with trees like this.  It's apparently becoming a resort style attraction for weddings and weekend getaways.  Great escape with nice restaurant, spa, pool and tennis.

We just happened on a Soap Box Derby in Plaquemine, LA.  What a great family event.  Lots of coaches and family cheering sections.  Talk about concentration!

Tomorrow we explore Baton Rouge.
